Bihar is one of the most backward states in India. According to the 2011 census report of GoI, the literacy rate in Bihar is only 61.80%. We provide educational support to children and youths from homeless and historically marginalised communities. We have successfully provided support through educational resources to almost 200+ school-going children in 4 districts of Bihar.
Assisting in the Enrollment of Children in Schools: In Bihar, many students from rural areas drop out of their early schooling because of a lack of awareness and socio-economic disparities. Our community educators from Trutiya Ratna assist them in enrolling in schools and follow up with their families to ensure they are enrolled in nearby schools. Recently, we conducted a study and found that 192 out of our 200 students had been successfully enrolled in nearby schools with help from our community educators.
Distributing School Supplies: One of the reasons the marginalised students lack their interest in studying is because they do not have proper access to study materials. We distribute supplies to all the students studying at our four centres in Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Jamui, and Patna on the occasions of birth anniversaries of our anti-caste leaders.
Discussion on Social Issues: From a few years of our experiences, we have realised that we could not work to empower the marginalised students without the support and empowerment of the community itself. We organise meetings and programs to spread awareness on various social issues with the local community and youths on gender, masculinity, sexuality, disability, child rights, and other important issues such as sexual and reproductive health, higher education, and economic empowerment.
