TRUTIYA RATNA · COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
Community Knowledge Centres & Libraries
Creating safe, inclusive learning hubs that bridge the gap in access to books, learning resources, and safe spaces for children and youth across rural Bihar.
Idea of the Programme
Community Libraries and Knowledge Centres (CLKC) are safe, inclusive reading spaces that nurture creativity, critical thinking, imagination, and a culture of learning. They are open not only to students enrolled in Trutiya Ratna’s programmes but to the entire community seeking access to books and knowledge.
When and How It Started — The first centre under Community Libraries and Knowledge Centres was established in 2021 in Aurangabad, Bihar, in response to the absence of functional libraries in government schools and the limited access first-generation learners had to reading spaces beyond academics.
Area of Operation & Rationale
CLKC currently operate across four districts of Bihar — Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Jamui, and Patna — working with children, youth, and women from marginalised communities.
The centres aim to bridge the gap in access to books and learning spaces by creating environments where reading, creative thinking, critical consciousness, and imagination can flourish, enabling learners to grow beyond the classroom.
Current Scenario
Trutiya Ratna currently runs four Community Libraries and Knowledge Centres across 4 districts of Bihar, offering books, learning resources, and after-school academic support for children from Classes 1–10. The libraries and knowledge centres have reached upto 300+ children and more than 1000+ families.
