Educational success cannot be separated from a child’s overall wellbeing. We work to address the barriers that stand in its way directly, through welfare access, legal aid, and counselling.
Idea of the Programme
This programme responds to the recognition that educational success cannot be separated from a child’s overall wellbeing. Poverty, discrimination, disability, and limited access to information all affect a child’s ability to learn, and Trutiya Ratna works to address these barriers directly.
When and How It Started — The programme took shape as community educators encountered cases of child marriage, begging, child labour, and exclusion of children with disabilities among the families they worked with. What began as case-by-case intervention grew into a structured approach to rights, entitlements, and wellbeing support.
Area of Operation & Rationale
The programme operates across Aurangabad, Jamui, Jehanabad, and Patna, working closely with families and local communities alongside Community Libraries and Knowledge Centres.
Trutiya Ratna supports families in accessing government welfare schemes, essential public services, and legal remedies related to discrimination, exclusion, and rights violations. It works to prevent child marriage and provides support to girls married at an early age.
Current Scenario
Mental health counselling and awareness on sexual and reproductive health are integrated into community-based interventions. Where required, we facilitate legal assistance by connecting community members with legal resources. The programme also supports disability inclusion, career guidance, and access to digital resources.

Child marriage stopped, student continued into 9th grade

Successfully intervened to stop a child marriage, enabling the student to continue her education into the 9th grade
Provided legal aid in one POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) case involving female primary school students harassed by a teacher, accompanying the families to court and the police station, and providing counselling to the students
Supported two young mothers during their pregnancies
Supported 20+ families in obtaining income, caste, and residential certificates for their children’s education
Supported 5+ youths in obtaining PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and bank accounts to access government schemes and scholarships for higher education
Sustained mental health counselling and awareness integrated into ongoing centre activities
Established a functioning referral pathway connecting families to government schemes and legal resources
